All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins is intent on signing an extension this summer to stay in Sacramento, he told ESPN on Thursday.
"I'm very happy," Cousins said. "It's where I want to be."
In his seventh season with the Kings, Cousins — averaging 27.8 points and 10.6 rebounds — apparently is feeling more comfortable with the franchise's direction than he has in an often-tumultuous past marked by distrust amid frequent front-office shuffles and almost annual coaching changes.
He can sign a five-year extension worth as much as $219 million this offseason.
"I think we're on the right path this season," Cousins said of the Kings, 24-33 but only 1 1/2 games out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. "We're playing the best basketball of the season so far. Our team is extremely confident. We believe we can make this push and make it happen. We've been preaching it all year. It's on us to make it happen."
And as for his personal goals related to an extension? He says wants his "legacy to end in Sacramento" and his "jersey to be in the rafters in Sacramento."
